A Tale of Two Pollards

From Wikipedia:
“Jonathan Jay Pollard (born August 7, 1954 in Galveston, Texas) is a former civilian intelligence analyst who was convicted of spying for Israel. He received a life sentence in 1987.”

Twenty three years later, Jonathan Pollard still languishes in prison. Even very-sympathetic-towards-Israel President Bill Clinton refused to pardon him.

Stephen Pollard, editor of the London Jewish Chronicle, is a different story. Possibly this article should have been named ‘A Tale of Three Pollards’, because there are opposing factors in Stephen Pollard’s public appearance.

In his own words regarding the JC,  “our readers … rightly see us as a beacon of support for Israel in an otherwise hostile UK media“.

The “otherwise hostile UK media” is not contested here. Also, Stephen Pollard has displayed personal professional bravery in expressing unpopular ideas of support for Israel. However, he is also ultimately responsible  for what is published on the JC’s website and accompanying blogs, those written both by JC staff and by independant consumers of the JC’s website.

Those “independant” blogs regularly include unfounded attacks on the State of Israel, such as “an Apartheid State”, “barbarians”, and more – much more. For these attacks, while not himself expressing similar opinions, and in all probability opposing them,  Pollard is ultimately responsible – and he says openly that he accepts this responsibility.

OK, mate, you’ve accepted responsibility. Big man! But where do we go from here? The attacks should be rebutted. But Pollard’s website managers have a weird hands-off policy towards attackers, as opposed to a “hands-on, clear off” policy towards pro-Israel thinkers who wish to oppose and rebut said attacks. As a result, the attacks remain online for all to see.

It is these JC website blog attacks that JCWatch has been set up to counteract.

Jonathan Pollard thus languishes in prison for life, having endangered himself for the sake of the State of Israel.

Stephen Pollard is responsible for publishing blogs and comments containing statements designed to influence world opinion even more against Israel, thus limiting the scope of actions to be performed by IDF soldiers in the next rounds with Lebanon and Gaza, and hence increasing the dangers to the lives of those soldiers.

I sure would like to hear what Stephen Pollard has to say …

  2. David Kahana Says:

It’s the people buying the Jewish Chronicle who support all this.
    No sales, no blogs!
